On Wed. Oct. 4, Winnipeggers of all ages are invited to Old Market Square to kick off the Winnipeg Jets regular season in style.
The Exchange District BIZ, Bodegoes, King + Bannatyne and the Red River College Student Association (RRSCA) are thrilled to present a FREE live broadcast of the Jets home opener live at the Cube with the Winnipeg Jets facing off against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Old Market Square will be transformed for Jets fans starting with a hockey skills competition taking place from 4pm to 6pm. Try to get the hardest slapshot, or bring the kids to take shots on our goalie…all for a chance to win some incredible prizes.
When the puck drops at 6 p.m., spectators can watch the game live on a 15-foot HD screen, generously donated by the RRSCA.
“We’re thrilled to host our 3rd Annual Jets Home Opener Live at the Cube,” said David Pensato, Executive Director of the Exchange District BIZ.
“We love being able to invite fans of all ages to Old Market Square for some expanded pregame fun and festivities, and we’re proud that we can support KidSport Winnipeg while we cheer on the Jets.”
Hockey fans are encouraged to bundle up, don their jerseys and bring their lawn chairs and blankets to experience this one-of-a-kind outdoor event. In addition to the live screening, there will be popcorn and hot chocolate for sale, including a special vegan hot chocolate donated by Sweet Vegan, plus fire pits to warm up around.
All proceeds go to KidSport Winnipeg, a charity administered by Sport Manitoba which helps to remove barriers and assist less fortunate children in participating in sport.
“With the event now in its third year, we have formed a great partnership with Kidsport Winnipeg,” said Nick Van Seggelen from Bodegoes and co-founder of the event. “All monies raised from this event from our concession sales and the 50/50 go straight to their amazing organization. We encourage everyone to wear their Jets gear, cheer loud and support this great cause.”
There will also be amazing prize giveaways between periods including a one-night stay at Mere Hotel, a Team Canada jersey signed by Winnipeg Jets players and gift cards and swag from Exchange District businesses.
“It’s amazing to see Exchange businesses, our community partners and the public come together to support a great cause and watch the big game live in such an incredible setting here in the Exchange,” said Mike Del Buono, owner of King + Bannatyne, and co-founder of the event.
Following the game, or between periods, fans are invited to visit nearby venues for food and drink.
