A few scattered rain showers today have done little to deter the excitement of thousands who have come out to Bird’s Hill Park this week to experience the 40th anniversary of The Winnipeg Folk Festival.
A full day of music workshops on Friday will be followed by a Main Stage concert this evening featuring The Cat Empire (Australia), Patrick Watson (Quebec), Danny Michel with The Garifuna Collective (Ontario/Belize), Lindi Ortega (Ontario/Tennessee) and Nathan Rogers (Manitoba).
Thursday at the Festival saw another stellar evening of main stage performances, offering a terrific mix of bands and musical styles that delighted the huge crowd who enjoyed a beautiful summer evening.
The driving, high energy sound of Serena Ryder and her band was arguably the most popular act of the night but several other performers were just as talented and well received.
The Main Stage featured concerts by Sara Watkins (California), Indigo Girls (California), Josh Ritter & The Royal City Band (Idaho), Serena Ryder (Ontario) and Colin Meloy (Oregon), along with tweener performances by The Magnificent 7s (Manitoba), Sarah MacDougall (Yukon), Del Barber (Manitoba) and Jason Collett (Ontario).
The Festival continues through the weekend.
