The Children’s Fringe play Squirrel Stole My Underpants is a joy for both adults and children.
This is a charming pantomime of a young girl named Sylvie and her struggle with a cheeky, bowler hat-wearing squirrel.
It features an extraordinary female performer who, by using puppets and her own exceptional physical acting abilities, easily enchants the audience.
Helping her along are a talented guitar and stand-up base duo that plays zippy old-timey dramatic music throughout.
Props are used as additional characters and at one point the girl and an arrow pointer amusingly dance a tango.
Sylvie also goes up into the bleachers to further engage her young audience.
Clever staging revolves around a clothesline that includes a laundry basket turned into a boat and a green underwear tree. It is the loss of Sylvie’s underwear that provides the comedic hook enjoyed by this potty humour crowd.
But don’t let the early years humour stop you from considering this unique and very entertaining play which is recommended for everyone.
