Blue Crime from Amsterdam, Avec Le Soleil Sortant De Sa Bouche from Montreal, Advance Base from Chicago, and Basic Nature from Winnipeg, are just a few of the 30 music acts converging at the Gimli Motor Sports Park Jun 24-26 for Real Love Summer Fest.
With full weekend passes, including camping, going for $60 a person and day passes just $30 each, Real Love Summer Fest offers a truly affordable way to kick off the summer.
Real Love Summer Fest is the creation of Winnipeg indie music taste-makers and musicians Gil Carroll and Adam Soloway, the boys behind Real Love Winnipeg (and Winnipeg’s Living Hour).
Gil and Adam had talked for years about putting together a local music festival to showcase Winnipeg’s diverse and prolific indie music scene, and two years ago they did just that.
That inaugural festival was a huge success, drawing a crowd of 400 people. Last year’s festival, in spite of torrential rains, was an even bigger draw.
This year’s offering, the first to feature imported talent, is shaping up to be their best festival yet.
Why is this such a great event?
Because it’s about two guys in their early twenties, born and raised in Winnipeg, who are totally committed to the city and province, to the local music scene, to sharing great music and to creating community.
It’s also about hundreds of like-minded people getting together on a June weekend and celebrating the start of summer.
And finally, it’s about a home-grown festival that is extremely affordable, where dozens of volunteers lend their time and their talents to a shared goal.
There’s nothing like great music, great talent, and two guys who love their hometown.
