Two-hander is a term for a play, movie, or television programme with only two main characters. The two characters in question often display differences in social standing or experiences, differences that are explored and possibly overcome as the story unfolds.
What happens when one member of a twosome is seriously injured in an accident just before showtime? In the case of Fringe show 2-Hander!, the shows went on with different guest artists reading the script, often for the first time. That’s what friends are for.
Jon Paterson’s perceptive curiosity allows him to write imaginative scripts. Billed as a world premiere, 2-Hander! is ideally suited for those who have good memories. Jon engages the audience by asking “Who remembers…?” as a variety of twosomes are portrayed. From Orville and Wilbur to the Mario Brothers, Desi and Lucy, Sammy and Dean, and Rocky and… oh, you know…
During the show, Jon asks “What makes a perfect duo?” For the 2-Handers, it is good sports who can adapt and ad-lib, all with a sense of humour.
That’s show biz, folks.
