Forum Art Centre — one of the city’s oldest, independent, educational, registered charitable visual art organizations – is hosting their Affordable Art Sale & Auction at the end of November.
The importance of making art available and accessible to the community was the vision a half-century ago of Winnipeg artist and art instructor, Nikola Bjelajac, who founded what would become Forum Art Centre (FAC). His goal was to offer training in art to anyone regardless of their ability to afford it, and to build a community of people connected by their love of art.
Since Bjelajac passed away in 2006, current executive director and interior designer Daryl Dumanski, has carried on this mission of providing art for the masses. FAC is now a hangout for artists of all ages and abilities, where one can get instruction in virtually every artistic medium.
It is with this philosophy that FAC holds their Affordable Art Sale & Auction, where one can not only purchase a painting at an amazing price, but can also have some fun with the Silent Bid & Buy auction.
FAC has added Bargain Basement Art to the sale with frames and more, including some beautiful at pieces, being offered at unreal discounts. The picture frames are solid wood (no plastic here) and are available in almost every style and size.
Anyone looking at redecorating for Christmas, will probably be able to find that perfect piece for the dining room. And of course, there is always those ‘hard to buy for’ family and friends for whom you may find unique, one-of-a-kind gifts not found anywhere else.
Another charitable organization — FAC’s friends from Growing Opportunities International — will be selling handmade gifts from Africa.
If you bring in the kids or “kids at heart” on Saturday, November 30 from 2 pm to 4 pm, you can get a free caricature done by Winnipeg artist, Tom Andrich, which would also make a great gift.
The Affordable Art Sale & Auction at the Forum Art Centre, 120 Eugenie Street & Tache, features work by many Manitoba artists.
The event takes place on November 28 & 29 (Thurs. & Fri.) from 4 pm to 9 pm, November 30 (Sat.) from 10 am to 4 pm, and on December 1 (Sun.) from noon to 4 pm.
Free admission, free parking, wheelchair access and browsing are encouraged. Ask about the gift of art classes for January 2014. Call 204-235-1069 or visit http://www.forumartcentre.com/
