On the southwest shore of the world’s tenth largest lake, “X” marks the spot for hidden treasure. Winnipeg Beach and area is home to a rich cache of art galleries and studios just waiting to be discovered.
Now, locally-run Yard Dog Studio and Bulrushes Gallery have collaborated to produce an Art Guide for the Winnipeg Beach area.
“It’s no longer a secret that this is the place to go when searching for art, even for the most discerning art enthusiast,” said Cheryl Tordon owner of Yard Dog Studio, formerly the popular and well established Fishfly Gallery.
Re-located to just across the street from its former location, in the old barber shop, Yard Dog Studio continues to focus on contemporary prairie art while leaving the door open to edgy authentic outsider art.
Bulrushes Gallery opened to critical acclaim last summer and was recently included by Travel Manitoba in a list of ten amazing Manitoba galleries.
Bulrushes specializes in wonderful rediscovered lost works of art. Its extensive and eclectic collection covers modernist, mid-century, traditional, and historic art works by some of Manitoba’s and Canada’s foremost artists.
Bulrushes also features new works, metal and glass art, jewelry and both contemporary and vintage pottery.
But these two galleries are not the only gems in this picturesque resort community, located just 60 km north of Winnipeg. The Winnipeg Beach area is chalk full of hidden art treasures if you know where to look.
Funky galleries and artists’ studios abound featuring award winning painters, potters, jewelry makers and other exceptional artisans.
“We’re thrilled to have partnered with Yard Dog Studio to produce this Art Guide and showcase the many art delights and studios in our community,” said Tim Wall, Bulrushes Gallery curator. “Winnipeg Beach has a rich and diverse art community that we are proud to be a part of and support.”
Wall also noted, “There really is something for everyone. The challenge will be deciding on which unique work of art has most captured your heart and memories of your visit to Winnipeg Beach.”
The “Art Guide” provides information on and directions for locating ten galleries and artist studios in the Winnipeg Beach area. The guide includes a map where each of these ten treasures can be found. The Art Guide can be downloaded by clicking here.
