The set-up is simple: six of Winnipeg’s best comedians perform their ‘A’ material. No theme, no gimmicks, just top-notch comedy from Winnipeg’s funniest people.
The series, started by The Park Theatre about a year ago, has resulted in several hilarious, sold-out shows. Now, the Park is poised to keep the fun going with the first Winnipeg Comedy Showcase of 2015 on Fri. Mar. 13.
And if the line up is any indication, audiences should be ready for some more gut busting, roll on the floor comedy.
The comedians this time around include, Ryan Ash, a regular host at Rumor’s and a Winnipeg Comedy Festival vet, who has opened for the likes of Tracey Morgan, Doug Stanhope and Patrice O’Neal.
Also on the bill is Paul Rabliauskas, known as “Manitoba’s fastest rising comic”, and a member of Poplar River First Nation, who turns his experience of living in tough neighbourhoods into comedy gold.
Keener is another comedian in the show, and like Madonna and Bono, he only needs one name. His one man show, Keener’s One Man Show (Featuring Other Men), combines his skills in stand-up and alternative comedy.
Dana Smith, a stand-up and sketch comic, rapper, writer and co-creator of such Fringe Festival hits as Comedy Plus Time Equals Tragedy and Lady Skits, will grace the stage as well.
Also featured will be animation filmmaker and avid astronomer, Dan Robertson, who refers to himself as “bi-sci-fi” because he adores Star Wars and Star Trek equally.
And finally, Going Greene – the musical comedy project of brothers Quinn and Kane Greene, will be performing.
As always, the show is hosted by Jared Story, a performer in the upcoming 2015 Winnipeg Comedy Festival, who has opened for comics such as, Jen Kirkman and Mick Foley. A veteran of the local comedy scene, Story selects the lineup for each Winnipeg Comedy Showcase.
Tickets for the Winnipeg Comedy Showcase are $10 and are available at the Park Theatre, Music Trader, www.ticketfly.com and from any of the comics on the bill. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Showtime is 9 p.m.
