As the 39th instalment of The Winnipeg Folk Festival concluded on Sunday, July 8, it was clear to see why the event remains one of the most successful festivals in North America.
Near perfect weather coupled with a stellar musical lineup thrilled thousands of Folk Festival patrons, many of whom make this annual trek to Birds Hills Park.
Along with its usual diverse mix of performers and artists – it’s “folk” music in the broadest sense of the term – the event almost always comes off without a hitch. This is a well oiled machine, powered by a highly competent and talented staff and of course, assisted by an army of 3,000 volunteers.
For one extra long weekend in July, The Winnipeg Folk Festival becomes the third largest city in Manitoba.
The Festival’s success, now almost legendary, is bound to increase as it approaches its 40th anniversary in 2013.
