Asian Heritage Month in Manitoba marked its conclusion on May 31st at the Saturday night event called “Asian Fusion” held at the West End Cultural Centre.
The show featured several talented acts that manifested the beauty of Asian culture, from invigorating music performances to awe-inspiring dances.
The evening started with remarks by Art Miki, president of the Asian Heritage Society of Manitoba.
The opening act was a spectacular dance number performed by the Aboriginal School of Dance. This was followed by a performance of the India School of Dance, Music and Theatre.
Next up was the Maples Collegiate’s Filipino Mabuhay Dance Ensemble performing the dance, Kazaduratan. Colours of Indonesia Dance Troupe was then featured, and James Ye Zia finished the first half of the show with a flute number just before the intermission.
The second half of the show began with a musical number played using the Haehum, a Korean string instrument, followed with a dance by Wassup Heroes, a K-pop dance group performing gyrations from famous Korean pop groups such as, 2NE1 and SNSD.
The cultural event concluded with the Jigme group of Phoebe Man, Daniel Koulak and Peter Baureiss performing musical numbers using their drums called, “Tanggu”.
