It’s that gallery on the Skywalk with those problematic doors. You can walk past it but you can’t walk in.
The Blankstein Gallery is located on the second floor of the Millennium Library and can only be accessed from the Library. It’s worth the walk around.
For years it has been playing host to artists and collectors with monthly exhibits of paintings, photography and crafts.
Currently it has a show of paintings and sculpture — Five Years Finding — by Winnipeg artist Andrew Marek. Marek’s sculptures are assemblages of objects that you might call whimsical or playful or curious or impactful. But you will definitely call them wonderfully original.
Andrew Marek is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design. He attended Concordia University and holds a Professional Photography Certificate from Vancouver’s Langara College. The show is running at the Blankstein Gallery from April 2 to April 29.
The Gallery is open during all regular library hours — Monday to Thursday 10 am to 9 pm, Friday & Saturday 10 am to 6 pm, Sunday 1 pm to 6 pm. It’s located adjacent to the music and video collection.
This is a popular free space for exhibitors. Staff advise us the space can fill up years ahead so don’t rush down to book. Currently the schedule is set into 2015!
