A summer of epic theatre is putting it mildly. This season, Rainbow Stage presents three of the biggest shows in its history, while working with unprecedented numbers of local artists.
Beginning earlier than usual, from June 4 to June 19, West Side Story will feature a cast of 32 actors and a 20-piece orchestra comprised of members of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
This is followed up with the blockbuster production of Les Misérables from July 9 to July 24, introducing a cast of 36 local actors and musicians – including four talented children who will have their Rainbow Stage debuts as Young Cosette, Young Eponine, and the loveable Gavroche.
And, finally, the Winnipeg premier of the hilarious Sister Act will run from Aug. 13 until Sep. 1, with a cast of 24 actors and a 12-piece orchestra in this spirited, spiritual song-fest that is sure to surprise and delight audiences.
Once casting is complete, Rainbow Stage’s 2015 epic summer of theatre will feature over 165 artists – a staggering amount.
“Our commitment, as always, is to presenting the highest quality theatre in our unique setting,” says Artistic Director Ray Hogg. “This means focusing on building a jaw-droppingly good artistic team. With auditions beginning in August of 2014, we have spent the past 6 months ensuring that the caliber of performer we engage is of the highest level, that the chemistry between our actors is electric, and that each of the 165 artists who will be working with us in 2015 is committed to creating magic on our stage in beautiful Kildonan Park.”
