All the commotion of the UFC event is definitely not his style. When he’s in the ring, his goal is meditative perfection. Oh, he’s big and powerful, and he’s light on his feet, but all he aims to do is please.
Twenty-five miles northeast of Winnipeg, at the Birds’ Hill Equestrian Centre, Marcus the Hanoverian went through his paces in the ring four times during the Father’s Day weekend. The first time in the ring, his performance was delayed because there was a wasp nest in the judges’ booth. Wasps dealt with, however, Marcus did not disappoint.
The fourteen year old “warmblood” is owned and ridden by Heather Thomas of Winnipeg.
Marcus is 17.1 hands high and a dark bay. He gleamed in the sunshine, demonstrating precision, beauty and power, arguably somewhat unlike the UFC fighters who competed indoors at the MTS Centre.
A frequent competitor in Dressage Winnipeg events, Marcus was one of more than forty horses shown at the Captain DeKenyeres Memorial Gold and Bronze Competitions at Birds’ Hill Park on the weekend.
Following his performances on each day, it was noted that Marcus enjoyed a snack of carrots. After his ride in the rings on Sunday, he submitted to a shower, and according to all reports, he loved it.
