The City of Winnipeg has launched its new 2014 City of Winnipeg Election mobile app.
The free app is available for download on iOS (iPhone, iPod, iPad), Android and BlackBerry devices in both English and French.
The Election app mirrors the election information offered on the city’s website in a mobile friendly format. It contains information voters will need to know to successfully cast their ballot in the 2014 municipal election. This includes, where to vote, who is eligible to vote, and voter identification requirements.
The 2014 General Civic Election for the City of Winnipeg will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. That’s when eligible voters will have the opportunity to cast ballots for Mayor, Councillors and School Trustees.
More detailed information, such as advance voting locations, the official candidate list, and election day voting locations, will be added to the app as they become available.
The mobile tool will also provide information for candidates on the process of running for office, legislation for campaign signage and campaign expenses, as well as important dates.
“This app will allow voters to stay connected with the election while on the go with the latest news, election results and social media updates,” said Marc Lemoine, Senior Election Official. “We are happy to have another tool for voters and candidates to stay informed.”
The app will be one of several online efforts the city is planning in the run up to the fall election, as part of a concerted effort to engage the electorate on mobile devices and on social networks like Facebook and Twitter.
Information regarding the app, and other election information is available by contacting the City of Winnipeg Contact Centre at 311 or by visiting the City of Winnipeg’s web page.
