Shortly after 11 p.m. Monday evening a cab driver for Duffy’s taxi had his car stolen while he went into his house in the Waverly West area.
He noticed the car driving off moments later and called his dispatcher.
The dispatcher promptly notified police and tracked the cab’s movements through the company’s GPS tracking system.
The taxi dispatcher stayed on the line with the police dispatcher relaying the cab’s whereabouts for about 25 minutes.
About eight police cars were on the lookout for the stolen cab which raced from Waverley West and was recovered on Nova Vista Road, where the suspect ran off. Police were on the scene with dogs tracking the suspect. As of 3 a.m. police had not yet caught the suspect.
The taxi was not damaged and was taken to the police station as part of their investigation. All taxis in town are equipped with video cameras and the videos will also be reviewed.
