Downtown Winnipeg has another green space for its citizens to enjoy.
The Millennium Library Park, located on the south side of the Millennium Library between Smith and Donald Streets, is now open to the public.
Mayor Sam Katz said the park is “unbelievable at night, fantastic during the day,” in his address as part of the opening ceremony on Friday.
The park features several water displays with lily pads and flowers, plenty of seating, and two unique art pieces. One of them, Emptyful, is the city’s largest public art piece. It has a fountain, mist, and lights for the evening or winter when the temperature will not allow a fountain to operate.
A crowd of people endured Friday’s sweltering heat to attend the ceremony, which ended with children, government ministers and special guests releasing ladybugs into the park.
Here is a short video showing Emptyful.
