So just how important is your fitness? And have you been able to find the perfect blend of activity, comfort level, perhaps an instructor or trainer, and of course the thing keeps you coming back for more — fun? Well, Zumba could be the thing for you especially if you luck into a leader like Ainsley Borus.
Passionate and enthusiastic, this Zumba instructor is a delightful young woman who puts a lot of creativity, time and effort into her programs — keeping them fresh and alive!
You can be rest assured that Ainsley’s expertise comes from her music background and her love of music. She breaks down a piece of music and by using her imagination, the creative movement patterns she discovers are amazing, and just what she wants them to be.
The core Zumba moves come from the following music styles: Reggaeton, Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue, Bellydance, Cha-cha, Tango and African Dance. A workout really gives you some wicked energy and of course it’s a great activity for your brain.
It was only in March of 2012 when Ainsley certified as a Zumba instructor, yet she really knows her stuff. It’s hard to believe that she taught her very first class in September 2012. She is truly gifted.
Ainsley runs a well-paced session, using the class mantra as a guide — joy begins in the mind, blooms in the heart and spreads throughout the body. She shows participants how to build their energy and gradually cool down again throughout the hour-long class. For the cool down she plays a special song that has been recorded by a local Winnipeg band — Little Darjeeling (like the tea). On one occasion the music group even worked out and played the cool down live. Now that was cool!
Ainsley “cues” exceptionally well — describes a move, models it — and uses a hand or body sign; her body positioning is so exact that it’s easy to follow, giving the participants confidence. It really makes you feel that you can do anything. That’s important! Ainsley is a master at modifications who challenges participants to try harder.
“I can’t get enough of the enthusiastic energy the participants at GKM (Gordon King Memorial United Church) bring to each and every Zumba class,” says Ainsley. “Week after week I’m inspired by the students and their fun-loving attitudes — whether the class is rocking to Reggaeton or swaying to Salsa, I can feel the good vibes and see the smiles on everyones faces,” she says.
Ainsley also writes such refreshingly informative e-mails that are fun to read. An excellent communicator with that ‘personal touch,’ she listens and takes time for everyone.
And she knows how to build community! Ainsley will be holding a Zumba Party on Monday, April 8th at 7 PM at Gordon King Memorial United Church (127 Cobourg Avenue ). There will be no set cost to attend the event but “free- will” donations will be accepted, all of which will go to Gordon King Memorial United Church. Everyone is welcome to attend at this wonderful location. The event will be like a regular class, with Ainsley’s friend and guest instructor Lisa Bisesi treating everyone to a couple of her routines. There will be light refreshments to enjoy after the class.
But you’ve really got to see Ainsley’s smile, as she is almost always smiling; so animated and ‘into it.’ She’s truly inspirational!
