2016 was a record-breaking year for The Winnipeg Foundation, with more grants distributed and more gifts received than ever before.
In 2016, The Foundation supported more than 900 charities with $31.6 million in grants – a $3.9 million increase over last year. The Foundation received 5,716 gifts totaling $37.3 million. And thanks to prudent financial stewardship The Foundation saw an 11.25% return on investment, ensuring donors’ legacies are respected and grant-making will continue For Good. Forever.
“The Winnipeg Foundation’s vision is ‘A Winnipeg where community life flourishes for all’,” says CEO Richard Frost. “Our grants work to make this vision a reality. From drop-in shelters to sports camps to seniors’ centres, The Foundation makes grants of all sizes to a variety of projects in our community. We’re honoured donors share our vision and choose to support our community with a gift through The Foundation.”
As more than 275 people gathered during today’s sold-out Annual Celebration at the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada (RAMWC), The Foundation announced it had reached an exciting granting milestone: $400 million in cumulative grants to the community.
This announcement came in conjunction with a $600,000 grant to the Aviation Museum in support of its new aviation and aerospace centre.
“This community grant from The Winnipeg Foundation will help us build a new, world-class facility on Winnipeg’s international airport campus. Our vision is to ‘celebrate the Legends of Canadian Aviation’ – a remarkable story of adventure and innovation that has led Manitoba to have the largest aerospace industry in Western Canada,” said RAMWC’s CEO Helen Halliday at the announcement.
Highlights from The Foundation’s 2016 fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2016 are available in a report on The Foundation’s website, wpgfdn.org, and will also be included in the Winnipeg Free Press on Sat. Jan. 7.
