The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced a three-year radio broadcast partnership with Nostalgia Broadcasting Cooperative (CJNU 93.7 FM) on Monday morning.
CJNU 93.7 FM will carry every Winnipeg Goldeyes spring training, regular season, and potential postseason game, beginning with the exhibition contest against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on May 10, 2016. Each broadcast is preceded by a 30-minute pre-game show and concludes with a 30-minute post-game show.
The Around the Association magazine show returns for 2016, and will air one hour prior to the first pitch of each Saturday Goldeyes game once the season is underway. CJNU 93.7 FM will also broadcast four monthly editions of the Inside Pitch off-season radio program (full list of dates below).
“We are very excited to announce this new partnership with Nostalgia Broadcasting Cooperative,” said Goldeyes’ general manager Andrew Collier.
“CJNU’s commitment to helping improve Winnipeg as a community aligns with our mission of providing affordable and family-friendly entertainment. We have been fortunate to have a dedicated listenership throughout our history, and are proud that CNJU will help continue that tradition.”
Broadcasting from the Richardson Building in Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District, CJNU Radio is a not-for-profit community station operated by Nostalgia Broadcasting Cooperative providing Winnipeg’s primary broadcast portal to “Boomers and Seniors.”
Its unique programming includes a nostalgic musical focus combined with information about the Winnipeg community and its vital organizations. CJNU partners include the citizen journalism project and website, Community News Commons, supported by The Winnipeg Foundation, as well as the Foundation’s weekly radio show, River City 360, that airs on CJNU on Sundays from 8:15 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Each month, the volunteers of CJNU take their studio to a new community location to engage the listening public directly with their community radio station. From a store front at Grant Park Shopping Centre, to the Everett Atrium of St. Boniface Hospital, to the warehouse at Winnipeg Harvest, CJNU is actively involved in helping numerous charitable organizations across Manitoba share their important stories.
“The agreement with the Winnipeg Goldeyes is another milestone in the development of community radio in Winnipeg,” said CJNU Manager Bill Stewart.
“Radio and baseball have a natural historic affinity, dating back 95 years to the first play-by-play broadcast in Pittsburgh in 1921. CJNU has been built on partnerships within the business and non-profit sectors of our community that are both a part of the Goldeyes tradition.”
