Terrific food and awesome music will be featured at the second annual Multi-Cultural Food Fare and Holiday Concert, hosted by the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society.
Serving up ethnic food and music from various genres, this popular fundraiser is being held Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Westminster Church, 475 Westminster Avenue.
The first of the two events held on this evening is the Multi-Cultural Food Fare offering mouth-watering ethnic foods and desserts from countries like Ethiopia, India, China, Vietnam and others.
Admission is free, however there is a nominal fee to purchase these tasty delights. The food fare will be held at the lecture hall of the Westminster Church from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
Immediately following the food fare is the Holiday Concert featuring such class acts as the Latin band Trio Bembe, French Canadian artist Kelly Bado, and Winnipeg Youth Chorus and country gospel band Lilies of the Field.
Named best Holiday Concert of the season last year by Virgin Radio 103.1 and its patrons, this show is different than other Christmas themed concerts, with a wide variety of songs from different genres, guaranteed to uplift your spirits.
During intermission you can grab a cup of hot chocolate or coffee for a nominal fee, to help celebrate the joyous season and mingle in the crowd.
Back by popular demand, this concert is filling up fast. Monies raised from the purchase of tickets in support of the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society will go towards funding mental health programs in the community.
“Last year 400 people attended,” said Jane Burpee. “It was a most delightful evening.”
“It brings people together, hopefully in awareness, that people with mental illness can enjoy the gift of music that is uplifting to take us away from getting bogged down,” Burpee said. “This event can make us feel so much better about living with mental illness.”
Everyone is sure to enjoy this year’s emcee for this wonderful event – Marcy Markusa from CBC Radio.
Tickets are $15 for the Holiday Concert and can be purchased from the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society office at 4 Fort Street, McNally Robinson Booksellers, Into the Music or Music Trader. Admission for children 12 and under is free. The concert goes from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
Organized by Communications Officer, Sangeetha Nair – Events and Marketing, in support of the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society, this promises to be a fun filled evening of food and fanfare. Everyone is welcome to join in the festivities of this joyous season.
