Clara Hughes rolled through town yesterday and in addition to promoting her recently released memoir, Open Heart, Open Mind, and answering questions about doping in sports, she had a message for Canada’s political parties.
“I would like the leaders to start talking about healthcare and mental healthcare. I haven’t heard any of that,” said Hughes during an interview she did Tuesday afternoon at the Winnipeg Free Press News Cafe.
“These are issues that affect every single Canadian. This is a really rich country in so many ways. I believe we can be so much better,” she added.
Hughes suggested she will try to contact each of the party leaders to pressure them to make this an issue on the campaign trail. “I don’t think they’ll listen but you’ve got to try, right?”
