I thought this past Friday the 13th was the worst ever. Until I listened to the news.
Both my neighbor and I had been gifted with $200 + speeding tickets on the same street; my other neighbour’s indoor cat got out and was killed by a car in front of her house; and my free month of Netflix expired.
Then I saw the news.
Is there hope for this world? I think so. The news feeds show the atrocities of the killings in Paris to reveal the worst of humanity.
Those same news feeds also show the best of humanity. We see soccer fans singing together, a man who biked a piano to a common area to play a song to help heal the sadness and scores of people opening their homes to those left stranded.
As what would have been John Lennon’s 75th birthday approaches we are called upon to imagine a world of peace. His legacy is a song, Imagine.
“Imagine there’s no countries,
It isn’t hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
Imagine no possessions
In wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one.”
Can singing really heal the world? Its worth a try. Native Winnipegger Shivon Robinsong, conductor of the 300 plus Gettn’ Higher Choir in BC once said that her wish is that all levels of government would begin their days of business by singing together.
The transformation that takes place with the harmony of shared voices in song would be positively revolutionary.
Margaret’s Choir in Winnipeg will follow their mandate of personal, local and global harmony by singing. Yes, even the Hockey Song has healing power.
For personal harmony the choir will sing for a missing young man, Reid Bricker. His struggles with mental health become everyone’s struggles and through song and a collective consciousness the vibrations of hope will resonate throughout the universe.
All singing can be an instrument of personal and world peace. Imagine that.
