There has been no bigger political story this year in Manitoba than the proposed increase in the Provincial Sales Tax.
Now, it’s time for all sides to weigh in with their positions for, against and somewhere in the middle.
On Wednesday May 29th, the Winnipeg Free Press and Community News Commons present a special live debate on the PST hike featuring Infrastructure Minister Steve Ashton, Business Council of Manitoba CEO Jim Carr, and Progressive Conservative candidate Shannon Martin, former Manitoba head of Canadian Federation of Independent Business.
The debate will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the Free Press News Cafe, 237 McDermot Avenue.
The panelists will delve deeply into the NDP government’s plans to increase the PST by one per cent to fund infrastructure, as well as the government’s decision to bypass a provincial referendum to approve the tax hike.
The debate is open to the public and other media, although space will be limited. This will be the final practicum offered by CNC in this spring’s citizen journalism training workshops. Click here to register online.
The event will also be carried live on winnipegfreepress.com. The event is co-sponsored by The Winnipeg Free Press and Community News Commons.
