Poverty and inequality have received unprecedented attention during this civic election. The two most recent Winnipeg mayoral debates focused almost exclusively on these issues.
Rossbrook House, the Centennial neighbourhood drop-in centre at the corner of Ross Avenue and Sherbrook Street, hosted the October 2nd debate.
It was moderated by Dennis Bracken, Associate Dean of the School of Social Work at the University of Manitoba.
Five of seven candidates participated: Brian Bowman, Judy Wasylycia-Leis, Robert Falcon Ouellette, David Sanders and Paula Havixbeck.
On Oct. 3rd, six community organizations, representing Winnipeg’s poorest neighbourhoods, hosted a Community Mayoral Forum: A Positive Response to Poverty at Gordon Bell High School.
Five of seven candidates for Mayor of Winnipeg participated: Brian Bowman, Michel Fillion, Robert-Falcon Ouellette, David Sanders and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.
The forum was moderated by Winnipeg Free Press reporter Mary Agnes Welch and sponsored by Spence Neighbourhood Association, Chalmers Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation, North End Community Renewal Corporation, Danial McIntyre St. Matthews Community Association, West Broadway Community Organization and West Broadway Community Ministry.
