I am wondering why there was such a hurry to remove the leaf drop off areas this fall. I live in a neighbourhood with mature trees, which I believe is the case for most people in Winnipeg.
I typically have 20-30 bags of leaves in the fall.
With this new system, I am inundated with leaves, I find I use more paper bags and I am waiting for a 2 week pick up time. I am not sure this is more convenient for residents; it is certainly not more convenient for me.
To be environmentally effective, and discouraging people from dumping the leaves in the garbage, I think we need both the yard waste pickup and the drop off sites in place.
I totally agree. I do think it is great that the city is implementing this program, but they need to figure out a better way of doing it.
One thing I can suggest for you is to leave some of the leaves on your lawn and mow over them before the snow falls. This is excellent fertilizer for your grass, so you will have a lovely lawn next summer, and you won’t have as many bags of leaves to deal with.
