Susan Krepart started the Magnus Hay Formula Drive in 2013 after hearing Winnipeg Harvest had a shortage of baby formula.
When Susan Krepart learned Winnipeg Harvest was down to 11 tins of baby formula she took to Facebook to battle the “slacktivism” of liking posts but offering no help.
“I had a visceral reaction. I can’t explain it to this day,” said Krepart. “I said ‘I will come to your house to pick up donations of cash or formula, no matter how small the donation.'”
Krepart’s story is one of several featured on River City 360, a new audio segment featuring stories about people working to make Winnipeg the best it can be. River City 360 airs on CJNU 93.7 FM and Community News Commons.
Krepart’s efforts established what would become known as the Magnus Hay Formula Drive for Winnipeg Harvest. Last year, the campaign raised nearly $26,000 in two weeks; totals for this year are still being calculated.
This month, River City 360 is taking a closer look at giving by asking Winnipeggers from all walks of life what giving means to them. In this episode, Susan discusses how she founded the Magnus Hay Formula Drive and what it means for her to give back:
