It’s a chance to address the issues youth care about. A Forum on Youth Issues with Mayoral Candidates will be held Thursday, October 16 from 6-8 p.m. in the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s Muriel Richardson Auditorium. It will share and promote our city’s Youth Vital Signs survey results, and give young people the chance to address issues and ask questions on the topics..
What’s Youth Vital Signs?
From March to May 2014, more than 1,800 young people aged 14-29 participated in Youth Vital Signs Winnipeg. They graded our city in 15 key areas, shared their thoughts and opinions, identified opportunities for change, and categorized their priorities for community investment.
A project of The Winnipeg Foundation, YVS Winnipeg is part of a national initiative that gives youth a new way to share their perspectives on local issues. More than 25 community foundations across Canada are participating in 2014 and the findings will be released simultaneously on October 7th. The goal of YVS is to provide all of us with a better understanding of what is important to the city’s young people. Survey results have the potential to influence decision-making at many levels.
The forum will be moderated by Community News Commons associate Noah Erenberg. Questions are being generated with help from Winnipeg youth, Youth Agencies Alliance and Aboriginal Youth Opportunities. You can tweet your questions using #YVSWPGForum. The forum will also include an opportunity for audience members to ask questions. All mayoral candidates have been invited to this event.
