Chino Argueta, director of Youth Agencies Alliance, says giving means being an active participant of society.
Chino Argueta has an innovative take on breaking down barriers: he does it by giving.
“Giving makes us stronger, it brings us together, it brings us closer,” says the director of Youth Agencies Alliance, a group of 19 agencies that work together to support youth in Winnipeg.
“It breaks down the barriers that separate families and communities. That’s really the only way to keep moving forward and not become static and allow people to fall through the cracks.”
Argueta gives back to his community by volunteering with different local agencies. But to him, contributions like that mean so much more.
“Giving really means being an active participant of my society,” said Argueta. “It means I care about the people that I work with, that I live with, my neighbourhood, even the people that I don’t know.”
Argueta is one of several Winnipeggers featured on River City 360, a new audio segment featuring stories about people working to make Winnipeg the best it can be. River City 360 airs on CJNU 93.7 FM and Community News Commons.
This month, River City 360 is taking a closer look at giving by asking Winnipeggers from all walks of life what giving means to them. In this episode, Argueta discusses how giving positively affects families and communities:
