The generosity of other people in his life inspires Tom Dercola to give back.
Dercola, a retired schoolteacher, volunteers with several local charitable organizations and also serves as the vice-president of community radio station CJNU 93.7 FM.
In addition, he established endowment funds at The Winnipeg Foundation to support causes meaningful to him and his family.
“So many people have given to me,” said Dercola.
“Now that I’m in a retired situation, I just felt that I have to continue to return those favours to all of those people who have helped me throughout my life.”
Dercola is one of several Winnipeggers featured on River City 360, a new audio segment exploring stories about people working to make Winnipeg the best it can be. River City 360 airs on CJNU 93.7 FM and Community News Commons.
River City 360 is taking a closer look at giving by asking Winnipeggers from all walks of life what giving means to them. In this episode, Tom Dercola talks about how he gives and why giving back is important to him:
