Food Matters Manitoba sponsored last night’s mayoral debate. It was held at the University of Winnipeg in Eckhardt-Grammaté Hall. Entitled “Politics on the Plate”, the debate attracted about 200 people and six of the seven candidates who remain in the race.
As debates go, it was hardly a food fight. The audience was there to learn, rather than to root for a favourite candidate. The proposals offered by the various candidates seemed to complement one another, rather than to be at odds.
CBC Winnipeg’s Ismaila Alfa moderated the discussion. The candidates who participated were Brian Bowman, Michel Fillion, Paula Havixbeck, Robert-Falcon Ouellette, David Sanders and Judy Wasylycia-Leis. Gord Steeves did not attend.
Here is the debate, in its entirety.
