The YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg has sent out the call for nominations for the 2012 Peace Medal.
The public is encouraged to visit the International Working Group’s blog http://winnipegyinternational.blogspot.ca/ and nominate individuals or groups who work for peace both at home and abroad. Nominations are being accepted for both a Youth and Adult award.
2012 marks the 25th anniversary of the Peace Medal in Canada, an award that recognizes that it is possible to build a more peaceful world one step at a time, and that everyone can be engaged in these efforts.
As Doreen Plowman, recipient of the award in 1998 said, “You can’t have peace if people are repressed or are denied their dignity. It’s social justice, and if you can’t have that, you can’t have peace. You have to do things, you have to be involved.”
More details on former Peace Medal recipients can be found on here. http://www.ywinnipeg.ca/documents/1988toPresent-PeaceMedalRecipients.pdf
Information on the Peace Medal, including nomination forms, can be found on the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg’s website. Further details on the International Working Group can be found on their blog.
The awards will be given at the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg’s Annual General Meeting.
