Vincent Massey Collegiate’s Youth in Philanthropy year has been a fun, learning experience with some surprises.
We started the year with only two members but then finished it with more than ten.
Although we are a small committee, we have done bake sales, hosted a successful trivia night, and granted money to charities like RaY Inc., Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, and the Ladybug Foundation.
We put a lot of work into making sure our Trivia Night went smoothly, by creating trivia questions, delivering donation request letters, and being question readers for the competing teams.
Thanks to everyone in our committee and to our staff advisor, our Battle of the Brains Trivia Night was a huge success; it enabled us to donate money to the Ladybug Foundation.
Youth in Philanthropy has given us the chance to meet new people, have fun, and be a part of something amazing. It is so eye opening to see what charities do behind the scenes, and how people dedicate their lives to help better the circumstances of other people or animals.
Doing site visits is a really incredible experience. Youth in Philanthropy has given us a sense of community, and so many opportunities we are truly grateful for.
Next year we hope to do even more to help local charities and we look forward to another year of site visits, granting, making new friends, and fun!
