The most powerful moment a person can hope for is to witness another’s passion for change. These moments may be few and far between but worth the wait for inspiration.
Five of us shared one of these moments at a recent University of Winnipeg Collegiate Youth in Philanthropy site visit to Klinic Community Health Centre.
It was a normal meeting, nothing unconventional, but the power with which our presenter spoke was different. Everyone we had met that day had treated us with kindness, but she stood out within the clearness of her passion towards the betterment of society.
What really moved me was her (almost) tearful discussion of women’s empowerment as she described The Dream Catcher’s program for women transitioning from the sex trade.
She pushed for dignity and respect for women, no matter their social standing. This I found to be the most empowering.
We hear about women’s empowerment every day, but each speech seems so rehearsed. We witness a sort of rehearsed passion.
An everyday moment such as this was different. It was real. At the end of the day, that kind of passion is what creates real, tangible change.
