Winnipeg has a new festival coming this October. The FLASH Photographic Festival aims to turn October into photo month for Winnipeg by featuring local photographers in venues all over the city.
Restaurants, cafes, pubs and even empty storefronts will see photography displayed for the entire month for this new annual venture.
Prominent photographers, such as Sheila Spence, Michael Grandmaison, Ian McCausland, Bruce Monk, and Pearl Angelini have already signed up to participate.
Along with shows, there will also be seminars on photographic lighting, neighbourhood camera walkabouts, movie nights, a vintage fashion shoot and more during the entire month of October 2014.
It is hoped that real world skills will be learned so photographers can grow into better artists in the future.
All kinds of images will be featured; commercial, wedding, fantasy, abstract, landscape and portrait, and in digital and film mediums as well.
I will personally be teaching a Cyanotype workshop. Cyanotypes are one of the oldest forms of photo print making. They were first used almost 200 years ago.

With 2014 being the 175th birthday of the photograph, this is a great way for Winnipeg to celebrate it!
