Finding suitable, affordable housing is extremely difficult for tens of thousands of citizens in Winnipeg.
Most of those in need of better accommodations find themselves in housing that is either unaffordable, overcrowded or in disrepair, and they simply cannot afford better housing.
Researching and documenting this crisis, as well as some of the solutions that could alleviate it, has been the focus of Josh Brandon, community animator for the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg.
Brandon recently co-authored a new book on low income housing in Winnipeg entitled, Poor Housing – A Silent Crisis.
It looks at the challenges of those in need and offers up some concrete solutions to the problem.
Recently, Josh Brandon spoke about this issue on the CKUW 95.9 FM radio program People of Interest. (Note: the book signing and event referred to in this interview took place last month. Of course, the book is available from most book sellers).
