A local Winnipeg youth singing group is embarking on the quintessential summer road trip …and hoping to wow audiences along the way.
The Winnipeg Youth Chorus is gearing up for a musically enriching and educational summer trip… a trip that will showcase the talent of 25 young Manitoba performers in places such as New Orleans, Louisiana and Pensacola and Orlando, Florida.
On the heels of their Mood Disorders benefit concert with Margaret’s Choir, the WYC has spent the last month rehearsing for an epic 2017 summer road trip. The 25 choristers, under the direction of Garth and Lisa Rempel, depart Winnipeg in early July.

Winnipeg Youth Chorus directors Garth and Lisa Rempel are working hard to prepare singers for their extraordinary summer trip.
Their first stop is New Orleans. Over four days they will have a chance to explore the birthplace of Jazz and all it has to offer. Included in this are numerous performance opportunities in places such as Jackson Square and at the National World War II Museum. The choir will appropriately perform an excerpt from local composer Zane Zalis’s Holocaust oratorio – “i believe” called “I Have a Name”.
After New Orleans, the choir will board a bus and travel to Pensacola, Florida. There the choir will have the opportunity to meet, sing and bond with the Pensacola Children’s Chorus.
Following a day of free time, the choristers will travel to the happiest place on earth – Disney World. After exploring all four theme parks, the choir will participate in a specialized Disney World performing arts workshop followed by their performance at Disney Springs.
The choir is looking forward to the opportunity to perform a Disney Medley showcasing the talent of the WYC to park-goers from around the world.
After experiencing all the magic that Disney has to offer, the choir will journey to Universal Studios Orlando – famous for its non-stop excitement and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
The choir will once again take the stage to wow park-goers with their performance. Their song set includes favourites such as, “Come Sail Away”, “We Rise Again”, “One Voice”, “Royals” and a song about a different kind of wizard, a “Pinball Wizard”.
